           2006 Awards Night Questions :

Can children play on a full court as they get older?

Due to size limitations of the courts and the number of players in the league we are

unable to have full court games at this time.

Increase the age limitation to include older children.

The Upward Unlimited recommends the ages for the sports in the program. All of the

learning materials are made for the ages specified.

Do not have parents choose only one day that is not good for practices let them chose more.

The forms that come from Upward Unlimited are already made with a choice of one exclusion.

The logistics of trying to let every one of the over 600 children choose their own times

would not create even teams or allow for the coaches work schedules or practice facility

availability.

Can the children be distributed more evenly on teams?.

Every attempt is made to make each team equal.  Several variables can change this, such as:

carpool links, coach links, and exclusion nights. Players also can grow and progress between

evaluations and games and we have had some players quit mid-season. We understand that

it makes for fun games when each team has an equal chance to win so we try our best to

make the teams fair.

Can practice times be earlier? Some were late in the evening.

We are sorry that some of the practices had to begin at 8:00 but due to the time allowances

on the use of facilities and the coaches who volunteer work schedules these times were all

we had available.  We appreciate the parents who are flexible and work with us to fill these

time slots. It really is amazing how many children can practice weekly at only 2 facilities.

Thank you for your understanding.

Do we really need to keep score?

We do not keep score until the 3rd  grade. It is an instructional league at the

Kindergarten level, however as the children progress in their skills and age they are playing in

a league.  Most of the children even at the 2nd grade level can tell you the score without

a scoreboard.

Can the Coaches communicate with the players and parents more?

Our coaches are given the names, phone numbers and e-mail addresses we receive on

the registration forms so please keep this information up to date.. If you have a question

at anytime time and you cannot reach your coach please call Lee or Brenda Skidmore at

330-723-5435, we will try to help.

Also , on the registration form is a box for becoming a parent volunteer. This position

could be used as an aid for the coach in communication or you could always be an

assistant coach if your team needs one.  We are grateful for our volunteers!

Why is God talked about with the children?

The purpose statement of Upward basketball includes teaching salvation, character and

self-esteem, see www.upward.com <http://www.upward.com>  Church attendance is not required to participate in

Upward basketball and we welcome all families.

Can we have more time between games?

Due to the schedules at the each church and the size of the leagues the games have to

run on the hour. The time of the parents and other spectators is valuable so we make

sure to do all we can to run on time.

Referee training.

The referees attend a training seminar with the coaches at the beginning of the season.

If any parent would like to help in either coaching or refereeing games we would be glad

to have your help.  You could ref as little as one game per week. Mark your registration

form or just call Lee or Brenda Skidmore or email us at Skidmore5@zoominternet.net <mailto:Skidmore5@zoominternet.net>

Can you change the uniforms or stars?

Upward Unlimited sends us the materials we use. We have no input on colors, star materials,

or other items in the player packet. As soon as we know this year's color we will put it on

the home page.

Yes! We have been so blessed to be able to have Reimer Road Baptist Church join us to allow for full court play for the 5th and 6th grade leagues. They have a great facility and have been very supportive of Upward in Wadsworth.

Increase the age limitation to include older children.

The Upward Unlimited recommends the ages for the sports in the program. All of the learning materials are made for the ages specified. K-6. All players must be 5 by October 20.
